DAB is a digital radio service which it is intended will eventually replace the current analogue FM radio service.  However, after many years of deliberation about when FM might be turned off, (and many dates set for doing so, only to be cancelled) it has now been decided that FM will remain for the foreseeable future with no date now agreed for it's turning off.  Digital radios have been sold in the UK for a number of years now but FM still remains popular especially as DAB radio signals are still patchy in rural areas.  However the DAB system is more easy to use than FM and once an initial scan of channels has been carried out the stations can be recalled quickly and easily. DAB aerials are also smaller than FM due to the higher frequencies used and so are less obtrusive.
